Associations and other organisations
General associations are organisations in which a group of people come together to pursue non-financial objectives. The persons who attend the inaugural meeting of such an association are regarded as founders, and at that meeting the statutes (articles of association) of the association are adopted and a board is elected.
It is possible to apply for the registration of associations that meet certain conditions and carry out activities for which there are grounds for registration in official registers. Examples of general associations include:
- Sports clubs
- Chess clubs
- Professional associations
- Trade unions
- Employers’ associations
- Charitable organisations
- Cultural associations.
The processing time for applications is up to three weeks. A scanned copy of the incorporation documents may be sent by email to fyrirtækjaskra@skatturinn.is. Submission of original hard copies is not required.
